Rio Ferdinand has paid tribute to David Moyes and his character after West Ham beat Liverpool 3-2 at the London Stadium on Sunday evening.
The Irons were worthy winners in East London as the Reds suffered their first defeat of the 2021/22 campaign.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube Channel [08/11/21], ex-Manchester United and West Ham defender Ferdinand has waxed lyrical over Moyes and the style of football implemented at the club.
“It’s nice that I’ve been able to text him and say ‘well done’,” Ferdinand shared.
“He’s so humble, plays the situation down, ‘it’s about the team, the team are doing well, it’s not about me’.
“They’re one of the most exciting teams to watch in the league now.”
One of the best
Moyes has certainly rebuilt his reputation at West Ham, and then some.
His 11-year tenure at Everton earned the Scot the right to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013, but that job proved to be a disaster that set him back many years in management.
After less than a year in charge, Moyes was sacked, and subsequent jobs at Real Sociedad and Sunderland did little to row back support for him.
Indeed, even saving West Ham from relegation during the 2017/18 campaign failed to earn him an extension at the club, and he was let go by the Irons hierarchy.
However, he was given a second chance in 2019, and he has certainly taken the opportunity with both hands.
Since he was re-appointed at West Ham, Moyes has put himself in the reckoning of the best Premier League managers around.
Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have won league titles in that time while Thomas Tuchel led Chelsea to the Champions League trophy last term, but Moyes must be the best of the rest after overseeing a transformation at the London Stadium.
In other West Ham news, Jurgen Klopp has poured praise on this Irons star amid heavy transfer links to Liverpool.
