Reported West Ham United target Valentin Castellanos has suggested that his future lies away from New York City FC.
The striker has been linked with a move to the London Stadium [Daily Mail] after finishing as the top scorer in MLS in 2021.
He is reportedly valued at £15million, with clubs in Spain also keen to sign him in the January transfer window.
In an interview with TyC Sports yesterday (16 December), Castellanos opened up about the transfer speculation.
“It is an honour that such great teams are being rumoured,
both in England and in Italy,” he said. “But there is nothing official yet. Now
I want to enjoy vacations and rest.
“I think I have already completed a cycle here in the league, I want to grow personally. I pay more attention to sports than economics. I had multi-million dollar offers from different places, but I’m not interested. To play in Europe would be to fulfil a dream.”
This is very encouraging for West Ham as it sounds as though
Castellanos is ready for a new challenge, perhaps in the Premier League.
The Hammers will be on the hunt for reinforcements upfront
in the January transfer window, with very few options currently at David Moyes’s
disposal behind Michail Antonio.
Described by Transfermarkt as “sensational”, Castellanos tore apart MLS this year, scoring 23 goals and registering nine assists in 36 appearances.
The Argentine ended the season in red hot form as he netted
nine times in his last seven matches to help New York City FC win the MLS Cup.
He will not be short of offers if he does decide to leave,
but his relatively cheap £15m price tag will surely be tempting for West Ham as
they aim to secure a spot in the top four.
In other West Ham news, a club source has revealed that a January move for one transfer target is up in the air.
