West Ham are reportedly likely to welcome back the services of Ryan Fredericks against Manchester City on Wednesday night in the EFL Cup.

The right-back returned to action against Genk last Thursday, come off the bench, but was omitted from the matchday squad for Sunday’s win against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Claret and Hugh claim it is hoped that the 29-year-old will be back to fitness and available for selection against the defending champions.

Good news

Coufal still appears to be unavailable so it’s nice to have two right-backs in contention for the game.

Manchester City are going to give the Hammers a run for their money so David Moyes needs to have all the aces up his sleeve for this contest.

Fredericks and Ben Johnson both offer something different, and it remains to be seen whom Moyes turns to for this big cup game.

Few expect the Hammers to come away with a win and in many ways, that can take the pressure off these occasions.

Ideally, we would start with Johnson, given how well he’s done recently, but a case can also be made for Fredericks.

The 29-year-old is known to put in ‘sensational’ performances – as labelled by the club’s official website – and we’re confident he’s still got plenty left in his tank.

He’s got plenty of rest for this one and could go out and give it his all for 60 minutes or more before being withdrawn for Johnson.
