West Ham United raced to an early lead against Aston Villa away from home on Sunday, with Ben Johnson bagging the opener seven minutes into the game.

The Hammers were pegged back as Ollie Watkins helped draw the hosts level, but Declan Rice helped restore their lead heading into half-time, and they will be looking to get the job done and leave Villa Park with all three points at full-time.

The opening 45 minutes was not without some interesting events, though, and Kevin Nolan almost let his passion got the better of him.

The West Ham coach was angry the visitors were not awarded a freekick after Michail Antonio was fouled.

Football.London journalist Thomas Clark shared the information on his personal Twitter account.

He said: “Kevin Nolan was fuming that a foul was not given there on Michail Antonio.

“The assistant was so angry David Moyes had to tell him to calm down.”

Passionate

Nolan loves West Ham to bits, and he definitely was not going to let such a moment slide.

He has been a key member of Moyes’ backroom staff, and has been part of the side’s success in recent months.

He is well aware that not all the decisions will go in his side’s favour, but he still made his feelings known to the officials.

It is good to see such display of passion from the West Ham non-playing staff, and it definitely helps spur those on the pitch on.

The Hammers will move level on points with Manchester City and retain their position in the table should they win the clash.

From the look of things, they are favourites to pick up all three points despite their narrow lead heading into the second half of the clash.

Moyes’ men are pushing for Champions League qualification this season, and should they continue at this pace, that is definitely on the cards.

In other West Ham news, a billionaire is plotting major Hammers player development amid takeover proposal.
