Lewis Jones believes that Manchester City will run out narrow 2-1 winners against West Ham on Sunday in the Premier League.
The Hammers as well as the Citizens go into this game on the back of some good form and it will be an intriguing battle, given how well the former have started the season.
David Moyes’ men went toe to toe with Liverpool and ended up beating them and he would want his players to do something similar against Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, Jones does not see it happening. In his column for Sky Sports, he wrote. “Am I brave enough to get involved? It’s whether I can forgive the Hammers for stinking the place out at Wolves last weekend.
“Michail Antonio and Declan Rice looked legless and the usual energetic supporting cast behind the striker lacked their usual creative spark.
“There’s also the Man City factor to consider. They purred like a Ferrari on Wednesday against PSG. The answer is: I’m not brave enough. City to edge it.”
No matches in the Premier League are easy, especially if the Hammers have set the bar that high this season.
It was important that they showed last season’s sixth-place finish was no fluke .
To do so, winning games against the so-called lesser teams are a given, and points against the big boys will certainly not dent their chances.
There’s a good possibility that Moyes may have written off this game as a loss in his pre-season plans so there will be an incentive of treating this one as a free hit.
Obviously, we don’t expect him to press City high up the pitch, but a pragmatic approach and playing on the counter could get the job done.
West Ham have a number of quick players among their ranks and they could cause this City a few problems if they get their acts together.
