Ray Parlour was quick to question Stuart Pearce on talkSPORT over whether West Ham will move to sign Jesse Lingard again in January.

Lingard, 28, had a successful half-season spell on loan at the London Stadium outfit during the 2021/22 campaign, scoring nine Premier League goals.

He returned to Manchester United in the summer but has failed to force his way into the Red Devils side, leading ex-Arsenal midfielder Parlour to question West Ham coach Pearce on talkSPORT (2 November), the morning after the Irons stuttered in a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

“One player that’s always going to be linked is Jesse Lingard,” Parlour said. “Do you think the club will go in and try and get Jesse again?”

“I think Jesse what he showed last year he’s going to be linked with various clubs, there’s no doubt about that,” Pearce replied.

“From his point of view, he’ll be looking at the World Cup in less than a year’s time and thinking ‘what do I have to do, where will I have to play my football?’

“All we know is he’s at Manchester United at the moment, he’s out of contract next summer, I’m sure he’ll have one or two suitors in the summer.

“He did himself no harm coming to us when he did and the form he showed.”

After three games without a win, and just one goal, West Ham need Lingard more than ever this season.

The question of whether he will move back to East London to link back up with David Moyes has been a tiresome one, with conflicting reports over the summer.

A lot of Hammers were happy to forget about him after the summer transfer window slammed shut, instead preparing to focus their attentions on big-money signing Nikola Vlasic.

However, the Croatia international has made just five Premier League appearances so far, failing to score or register an assist.

The 24-year-old hasn’t even made it off the bench in the last two.

Therefore, Lingard would surely be welcomed back now – the Warrington-born attacker has two Premier League goals to his name already this season, despite playing just seven times in the league off the bench.

With Said Benrahma set to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations next month, Lingard would be a welcome arrival.
