West Ham have reportedly opened talks to sign Burnley defender James Tarkowski in the January transfer window.

According to Claret and Hugh, he is one David Moyespreferred centre-backs in the winter and the club have taken the first steps towards completing that signing.

The Englishman’s deal expires in the summer so this will be the last chance for Burnley to cash in on his services.

Good move?

A centre-back is the need of the hour and the Hammers cannot think of finishing in the top four without signing one.

Angelo Ogbonna may be on the wrong side of 30, but he was extremely reliable since the start of the season.

However, his season-ending injury made the Hammers show a keen interest in signing another defender.

That has been accelerated since Kurt Zouma’s injury and it has become a priority for them to now sign someone like Tarkowski.

Given the fact that he’s got only six months left on his deal, there’s a good chance that the Hammers will be able to sign him for a discounted fee.

His manager Sean Dyche labelled him “outstanding” in 2017 and we’re sure he would still use similar words to describe him even today.

Moyes has been right in identifying him as a target and it’s time the club sign the Englishman.

In other West Ham news, the club have made an approach to sign a ‘Terrific’ international ace and a January move is on the cards
