West Ham have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in January.

According to talkSPORT presenter Alex Crook, the South Coast club will not even pick up the phone unless an offer too good to turn down is made for the 23-year-old Englishman.

What that offer would look like is debatable although BBC journalist Kris Temple suggests it could be in excess of £50million if Dominic Solanke was going to leave too.

The Hunt Goes On

Kelly is not the only central defender on David Moyes’ wish list; Nathan Ake and Duje Caleta-Car have both been linked with the club in recent weeks.

The Hammers are in almost desperate need of cover in defence with Angelo Ogbonna still out injured, even if Kurt Zouma is expected to be back quicker than originally feared.

Craig Dawson and Issa Diop have been filling the void left by Ogbonna and Zouma recently and while they have been solid in that time, reinforcements might be needed with little cover behind the duo.

Not only are they down to their final two senior centre halves, but the fixture list intensifies throughout January before the Europa League returns the following month.

The Hammers have high hopes in Europe having won five of their six group games in the competition, finishing top of Group H.

They could draw one of Europe’s elite in the knockout rounds including an Erling Haaland-led Borussia Dortmund or multiple Champions League winners Barcelona under the management of legendary player Xavi Hernandez.

Multiple games per week, week after week, is a tasking job for any player and Moyes needs to have more than just two defenders to work with when the busy run in begins.

In other West Ham news, an ex-Premier League player has tipped the Hammers for big things this season.
