West Ham United are flying at the moment, and not many will bet against them finishing in the top-four and winning silverware this season.

David Moyes’ side are fourth in the Premier League table after 10 games and have booked a place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

Ian Wright is impressed by what he has seen so far from West Ham, but with Michail Antonio being their only number 9, the former Hammers hitman has urged his old club to sign another striker.

He said on Wrighty’s House: “They do need to get a striker to help.

“They do need that, because if he (Antonio) picks up an injury, it’s a different ball game for them.

David Moyes signing strikers, it’s not been great. It is not really happened for him.”

Huge task

Antonio has not had any injury concerns this term and has constantly taken care of himself, but West Ham could be in trouble if he damages his hamstring or picks up a different knock.

The Jamaican international missed 13 games while out injured last term, and was unavailable for 15 games in 2019-20 as a result of his injury woes, with his hamstring causing him a lot of trouble [Transfer Market].

Failing to get in an out-and-out hitman in the summer could spell doom for the Hammers’ top-four chances if Antonio picks up a knock.

Moyes has deployed Andriy Yarmolenko and Jarrod Bowen as makeshift strikers in the games his number 9 has not played in this term, but the duo do not have what it takes to lead the line effectively as the former Nottingham Forest man does.

Antonio missed some games towards the end of last term, and that dealt a huge blow on their top-four chances.

West Ham need to bring a quality cover in when the January transfer window opens, and deciding to risk ending the season with just the Englishman could backfire.
