Thomas Tuchel has shared his thoughts on Chelsea making a move for West Ham star Declan Rice.
The Chelsea manager discussed the potential lure that a move to Stamford Bridge could have on the 22-year-old due to his connections with the club.
Rice has been heavily linked with a move to join the Blues for a long time, but as of yet, nothing has happened, and he has remained at the London Stadium [Sun].
However, Tuchel refused to rule out a move for Rice in his pre-match press conference before Chelsea face the Irons [Daily Express].
He said: “I am absolutely aware that he is a Chelsea boy, and he comes through the academy, and he is very close to our guys.
“Declan is an important member of the England team, so it speaks for itself.”
Tuchel blown away by Rice.
It seems as if the German is a big fan of the Irons man, but who wouldn’t be given his current form and potential for growth?
You could also see this praise as an attempt at mind games from Tuchel before a hugely important game, and perhaps he was trying to soften Rice up?
Certainly, that is a trick that many top coaches have employed in the past, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Tuchel were trying to do the same.
Now, given that the Hammers are sat in fourth, we can’t imagine that Rice will lose focus on the job at hand and deliver another strong display.
This is a big match for the Irons, and they need all of their players to be at their very best if they are to stand any chance of getting anything from this game.
It is always nice to hear praise for Rice because he deserves it, and he has been described as “outstanding” by Gareth Southagate in the past, but it’s not something that’s needed before a big game like this, and Tuchel knows that [West Ham website].
