Despite the usual drama that occurs when two top London teams meet, it was Chelsea who breezed through to the Carabao Cup final with a dominating two legs over rival Spurs.
Antonio Conte was right when he said there was ‘much work to do’, and hopefully the Spurs board can prove, with their cheque book, that they do indeed back the serial winner of a manager.
Chelsea FC, on the other hand, have a manager who has been backed extensively..and rightly so.
And, it was Rudiger, on 18 minutes, who gave the Blues a deserved win, rising above the Tottenham defence to give Chelsea an insurmountable 3-0 advantage in the Semi-Final.
Who Will They Play In The Final?
Chelsea will meet either Liverpool or Arsenal in the Final.
Given that Arsenal have a depleted squad, and have not made any progress in their efforts to cover those shortages, it would be likely that Chelsea will meet Liverpool in the Final…miracles excepted.
Who would win that encounter? We feel that given that Chelsea’s form in the recent past has varied between outstanding and laboured, Liverpool would have a degree of confidence in overcoming their London rivals, however one thing is for sure, Tuchel is an astute and experienced manager…he won’t give up without one mighty fight!
What Now For Tottenham?
With West Ham and Arsenal above them for Champions League places, Conte has a lot of work to do. However, for him to achieve that goal, Levy and company will need to act…and act quickly, to strengthen the squad.
For now, at least, Tottenham’s Carabao Cup campaign is over for another year, albeit to a better and more deserved team.
Tonight’s semi-final between Arsenal and Liverpool promises to be a cracker, and the final will be even more so!
