West Ham host Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday and will look to bounce back from their last two Premier League defeats.

Michael Owen has tipped them to secure a 2-1 win over the Seagulls while previewing the clash in his BetVictor column, insisting their recent dip in form is nothing to be concerned about.

The Hammers remain fourth in the Premier League table despite losses to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City, but failure to pip Graham Potter’s men could see them drop out of the Champions League places.

Owen said: “Brighton have been excellent this season. Their fans booing the team on Saturday after their 0-0 draw with Leeds may have not impressed Graham Potter, however, it could be seen as a back-handed compliment with their standards now much higher than in previous seasons.

“That said, this trip to the London Stadium is a tricky one. We all know how well the Hammers have progressed under David Moyes, and despite a small downturn in form, European qualification is certainly on the agenda for his side again.

“I see another close one in prospect but think the Hammers’ have just enough to get the job done.”

Tricky indeed

Brighton are without a win in their last eight Premier League games, but they have only lost two of them and are just lacking the sharpness in front of goal.

West Ham cannot afford to perform as they have done since action resumed after the last international break if they are serious about getting a win.

David Moyes’ men host Chelsea at the weekend, and he could be tempted to ring the changes to his starting XI for the Seagulls’ clash.

The Irons have been able to rotate their squad well so far this season, impressing in the League Cup and Europa League as a result, but that could prove tricky in the coming days.

The London Stadium outfit are slight favourites to win this game, but they will need to be on top of their game against a Brighton side that play one of the best attacking footballs in the land.

West Ham need to prove that their early-season form is not just a fluke, and a win on Wednesday night will be the perfect tonic for the dressing room ahead of the Blues clash.
