West Ham have been reportedly chasing Monaco defender Benoît Badiashile and he would be a cracking signing for the club in the January window.

According to French media outlet Foot Mercato, the Hammers are facing competition from Newcastle United to sign the 20-year-old centre-back.

While Newcastle are currently in the middle of a transfer labyrinth, the Hammers must not miss out on singing the sensational young defender.

The report claimed the Irons have made contact with Monaco and a January bid for the youngster is on the cards.

At such a tender age, Badiashile is already receiving rave reviews from all corners, and rightly so.

Fearless and dominant in the air, Badiashile is an “amazing” talent and a move to the Premier League would be the next big step in his career.

Signing a defender is a priority this month, with the Hammers
missing the services of Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna, both are long-term
absentees.

West Ham have been linked with players like Nat Phillips and James Tarkowski [Eveing Standard] but in terms of sheer talent, Badiashile cuts the edge.

Technically smart with the ball in his feet, he is equally very good with his tackling (1.6 tackles per game in Ligue 1, according to Whoscored).

Known for making progressive passes (3.2 long balls attempted), where he stands out is in composure. He makes quite a lot of clearance (2.2 per game) has got an impressive pace as well.

While West Ham will have to pay a big money to sign him, but
that’s normal if you’re looking to lure a top-rated talent.

He would be a statement move – a signing who could be a long-term asset for the club. He is one of the exciting young talents at Monaco, and the West Ham board must back Moyes in securing his signature this month.
