West Ham lost 2-1 against Manchester City in the Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Ilkay Gundogan scored in the first half after brilliant work from Riyad Mahrez on the right-hand side to put City ahead. Fernandinho scored in the dying minutes to seal all three points for the home side.
Manuel Lanzini pulled one back for West Ham with a stunning strike. The Hammers remained compact at the back but they lacked their spark upfront to open up the City defence.
Here, West Ham Zone has rated the West Ham players out of 10 for their performance at the Etihad Stadium.
Lukasz Fabianski – 8 (MOTM)
Made some stunning saves, especially in the first half. His distribution hasn’t been great but kept West Ham in the game throughout.
Ben Johnson – 7
Didn’t enjoy enough freedom going forward, but produced a magnificent goal-line clearance in the first half to deny Jesus.
Craig Dawson – 6
Strong in the air. Won a few ariel duels. Tidy at the back.
Kurt Zouma – 6
Tidy at the back. He was quick at releasing the ball and did well in the first half when City were dominating and the snowfall made it really difficult to anticipate the ball movement.
Aaron Cresswell – 6
An outstanding last-ditch defending from him in the 53rd minute to deny Gabriel Jesus a clear goal.
Arthur Masuaku – 4
Very poor. He lost his position and allowed acres of space for Mahrez to get into the box and pick a pass. David Moyes wasn’t pleased. Misplaced a few passes while going forward.
Declan Rice – 7
Plenty of energy in the middle and made some very good interceptions. Tried to influence the game more in the second half.
Thomas Soucek – 6
Tidy in possession and played out short and simple passes. He is absolutely vital when defending set-pieces, but he has been poor recently. However, the driving force from him has been missing once again.
Pablo Fornals – 5
It wasn’t a bad performance. Did really well to help defenders out but lacked creative output.
Said Benrahma – 6
Missed a glorious opportunity to put the Hammers upfront within the opening five minutes when Michail Antonio found him in the box with a brilliant pass. Taken off shortly after the break.
Michail Antonio – 7
Brilliant. Without enough service, he had to drop deep and keep hold of the ball. Played out a brilliant pass to Benrahma in the first half.
Manuel Lanzini (on for Benrahma 58th min) – 7
Scored a brilliant goal towards the end. But it was too late and was merely a consolation goal.
Vladimir Coufal (on for Aaron Cresswell 61st min) – 5
Jarrod Bowen (on for Masuaku, 73rd) – 6
In other West Ham news, the Irons held talks with the agents of this striker on Friday and £12.7million could seal the deal in January.
