West Ham could keep hold of Declan Rice as Manchester United look set on prioritising a move for Boubacar Kamara in January.
Bringing in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho in the summer halted the Red Devils’ pursuit for a much-needed holding midfielder.
Spending upwards of £120m on signings in the summer, United had to put their hunt for Rice on hold, ideally recruiting the Hammers captain in the next summer transfer window.
There to transform United, Ralf Rangnick identified the Marseille dynamo Kamara as the ideal replacement for £100m rated Rice.
Kamara is 22 years old – the same age as Rice – and is already an experienced player for Marseille, having made 141 appearances to date and whilst occasionally carrying the responsibility of the captain’s armband.
Rangnick has come in to help Manchester United on and off the pitch. The 63-year-old has great experience in developing clubs but works effectively, as seen during his time in Germany.
This is great news as West Ham hope to keep hold of their midfield powerhouse.
Rice’s quality is undeniable but Rangnick is looking to create a high intensity, pressing monster of a team at United – something Kamara has demonstrated regularly with Marseille.
Off of the pitch, considerations are just as for the Irons as they look to keep Rice. The days of Manchester United spending huge money on lucrative stars may be coming to an end.
They have a net spend of -£457.6m over the last five years, a strategy that has failed to work with the Reds’ on pitch status deteriorating.
Kamara is available for free in the summer which makes it an absolute no-brainer in terms of who United should make a move for.
Rice is a potential generational talent but his price tag along with Kamara’s emergence is hopefully enough to stop them from making a move for the Englishman this summer.
