West Ham United need to bolster their striking department in January as they are one key injury away from struggling this term.

Michail Antonio has been fit so far in 2021-22 and maintained a brilliant form in front of goal, but the Hammers cannot expect to rely on him for the whole campaign.

David Moyes failed to get in another striker last January and in the summer, and it appears getting one next January will be very difficult.

According to Sportsmail, West Ham are struggling to land any of their targets in the position due to the red-hot form of the Jamaican international.

Forwards at other clubs are reluctant to move to the London Stadium as Antonio’s understudy to sit on the bench.

The report adds that the Hammers held talks with seven different strikers in the summer, but none joined, and Moyes is reluctant to deviate from his game-plan of playing just one up front.

The West Ham boss has deployed Andriy Yarmolenko or Jarrod Bowen in the games Antonio has not played this term, but none can lead the line the way he does.

The 31-year-old has taken his form with him to international level, grabbing a superb goal against El Salvador on Saturday and is not looking to stop firing on all cylinders anytime soon.

Ironically, that could be bad news for the club as getting a back-up striker in January could prove herculean.

Former Manchester City scout Georges Santos recently reunited with Hammers Head of Recruitment Rob Newman after their work together at the Etihad Stadium, and just maybe the new scouting team will be able to succeed where Moyes failed in the last two transfer windows.

West Ham badly need to strengthen in that department, and failure to do so could be catastrophic on their top-four and silverware chances.
