Arthur Masuaku is expected to keep his place in the West Ham team despite the imminent return of Aaron Cresswell, according to Claret and Hugh.

Cresswell has missed the last four Premier League games
after picking up a back injury against Manchester City, but is likely to be
available to face Tottenham in the League Cup on Wednesday (22 December).

In his absence, Masuaku has filled in at left-back but it has been clear that he is much more suited to a role further forward.

Claret and Hugh claim that David Moyes will give the DR Congo
international that attacking freedom by playing him in midfield ahead of
Cresswell against Spurs.

The report adds that academy stars Harrison Ashby and Emmanuel
Longelo are also being considered for starts in the full-back positions.

Licence to attack

Masuaku struggled for fitness at the start of the season and did not make a Premier League appearance until a late cameo against Liverpool at the start of November.

Since filling in for Cresswell, he has by no means been a
weak link in the West Ham team but has struggled with his defensive duties on

However that is not to say that he cannot be an asset to the
side further up the field and he impressed in the left midfield position
against Manchester City at the end of November.

Cresswell is clearly the superior left-back in the squad because of what he brings in both defence and attack, with Tony Cascarino describing the 31-year-old as “outstanding” earlier in the season.

The League Cup presents West Ham with a real chance of
silverware this season so Moyes would be right to name a strong team against
Spurs, particularly given his players have been rested this weekend.
