West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku has sent a message to former teammate Sebastien Haller after the striker scored again in the Champions League.

The ex-Hammer came on as a substitute and netted twice in 15
minutes as Ajax came from behind to beat Besiktas 2-1 on Wednesday night.

It means that Haller has scored nine goals already in his debut Champions League campaign, the most by any player in their first five games in the competition.

Quoting a tweet that announced the striker’s record-breaking milestone, Masuaku said: “My bro” followed by a heart and a raised fist emoji.

Hammers woe

Haller’s exploits in the Champions League this season have
been difficult to watch for West Ham fans who will be wondering why this
sensational form was not seen at the London Stadium.

Ever since the Ivory Coast international signed for Ajax in January he has had no trouble finding the back of the net – scoring 31 goals in 42 appearances for the Dutch side, in addition to 12 assists.

In contrast, he managed just 14 goals and three assists in
52 appearances while at West Ham and was labelled a flop following his £45m
move from Eintracht Frankfurt.

There were glimpses of Haller’s talent during his time in East London, but it was clear that he did not suit the way that David Moyes wanted to play and the 27-year-old told TalkSport earlier this year “maybe the set-up was not perfect”.

Nonetheless, that makes it no less difficult to take that
the club ended up selling the in-form frontman for only £20m.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes has revealed his Europa League ambition ahead of this evening’s game against Rapid Vienna.
