West Ham could hand Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Darren Randolph a new deal, according to Sami Mokbel.

Daily Mail’s Chief Football Reporter took to his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (11 January) to claim that the 34-year-old is unlikely to join Aston Villa this month as David Moyes wants him around at the London Stadium.

The Hammers boss sees Randolph as an influential part of his dressing room, and a new contract could now be on the cards for him.

Mokbel said: “Darren Randolph proposed move to Aston Villa unlikely to happen.

David Moyes wants him to stay at West Ham and views him as a big part of the dressing room.

“Randolph could now be handed a new contract.”

Wow

Not many would have seen this coming given that the veteran goalie had been constantly linked with an exit in recent months.

He is currently behind Lukasz Fabianski and Alphonse Areola in the pecking order and on high wages, but Villa could not agree personal terms with him.

Randolph rejoined West Ham in January 2020 as the first signing of Moyes’ second spell in a £4million move from Middlesbrough on a three-year contract, and it appears he could now get another deal having impressed the coaches with his professionalism and influence.

Randolph has not made an appearance this season and is not likely to feature given how serious the Hammers are taking the remaining three competitions they are currently playing in.

It is almost unbelievable that West Ham will consider handing him a new deal as the general consensus was that they want him gone, and it will be interesting to see how things go.

Moyes wants to bring in quality additions before the January transfer window shuts, and while some departures are also expected, the Irishman seems off the list.
