West Ham United are looking to strengthen their midfield after making contact over a move for Monaco ace Aleksandr Golovin, according to Sport Witness.
The 25-year-old has been a standout player in the principality this season and Sport Witness reports that both West Ham and Everton had contacted his agent.
A move in January though could cost a pretty penny with the Ligue 1 side reportedly asking between £33-42million for the Russian.
Golovin came through the CSKA Moscow youth academy and burst onto the scene at the 2018 World Cup where he helped Russia to the quarter-finals at their home tournament.
He earned his move to Monaco off the back of his star performances in the summer and has become a regular fixture in the midfield there ever since.
Now, though, he is looking to take the next step in his career and that looks likely to be in the Premier League.
He is renowned for his high energy play style that sees him run almost constantly for the entire 90 minutes.
He covers every blade of grass in a similar vein to that of current Irons midfield duo Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.
Whether he would start over either of those is unknown but with rumours pointing towards Rice’s exit in the summer, Golovin could be the ideal replacement for the Hammers’ vice-captain.
Signing him in January would give him useful time to adapt to England while Rice remains at the club which should then see him take the Englishman’s place next season should he leave.
Everton may be able to offer games straight away but the lure of European football at the London Stadium might be enough to fend off the Merseyside club.
In other West Ham news, Michael Owen has predicted the result of tonight’s (12 January) game against Norwich City.
