West Ham are leading a number of clubs keen on Marseille striker Bamba Dieng, according to the print edition of the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reports on Page 53 on Wednesday (5 January) that the Hammers face competition from Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Newcastle for the Senegal international, 21.

David Moyes wants to bolster his attack for the second half of 2021-22, but it remains to be seen whether the Ligue 1 outfit will be ready to cash in on Dieng midway through the campaign.

The Senegalese has scored only four times in 19 appearances in Ligue 1 and the Europa League, but he has been likened to a young Sadio Mane.

Given his pace and built, he seems like a player capable of hitting the ground running should a move to the Premier League work out.

West Ham need a cover for Michail Antonio, but a move for the versatile Dieng has to wait until the end of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Moyes also wants a cover for Algeria international Said Benrahma, and he could prefer someone who is not occupied with international football this month.

Senegalese legend El-Hadji Diouf dubbed the youngster a ‘great striker’ last September, comparing him with Didier Drogba due to his style of play [RMC].

Should West Ham manage to get their hands on him before January ends or in the summer and he ends up becoming influential as the former Chelsea hitman, they would have ended up doing a fine piece of transfer business.

Marseille are currently challenging Paris Saint-Germain for the title, and losing such a player right now is not likely to be on the agenda except the Hammers break the bank for him.
