West Ham are set to recall Conor Coventry and Frederick Alves from their loan spells at Peterborough United and Sunderland, respectively.

According to ExWHUemployee, the duo are likely to remain with the club in January before a decision is made on whether they would go out on loan again or stay to prove themselves.

The trusted Hammers source provided the update on their West Ham Way Patreon after the club confirmed that Mipo Odubeko has returned to the club following his unsuccessful loan spell at Huddersfield, with Coventry, 21, set to return tomorrow (5 January).

Boost for squad?

David Moyes could do with one or more options at centre-back right now following injuries to Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma, and having the Danish defender back could come in handy.

The 22-year-old has made three league appearances – all from the bench- and played thrice in the League Cup, and that is not good enough.

Questions would be asked whether he has what it takes to play for the Hammers first-team after struggling for the Black Cats, and Alves will be looking to show that he can do that.

With Mark Noble set to hang the boots at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, West Ham will be looking to strengthen in defensive midfield, and Coventry will fancy his chances.

The 21-year-old has made 12 Championship appearances so far, with just a third of them being starts.

It remains to be seen whether he will be getting any chances if he returns to the London Stadium, though, with Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek, Nikola Vlasic and the skipper all ahead of him in the pecking order right now.
