West Ham have reportedly opened talks with the agents of Liverpool defender Nat Phillips ahead of a January move.
According to Claret and Hugh, David Moyes has identified the 24-year-old as one of his targets in the winter transfer window.
The club are still to hold a meeting after which they will submit an official bid if talks progress with the centre-back’s representatives.
Phillips has been there for Jurgen Klopp whenever their first-choice defenders have not been available.
He’s stepped in no questions asked and has proven to be a reliable understudy for the German.
There’s no surprise, given his qualities, why he’s looking for a regular spot in the playing eleven.
However, with Liverpool’s array of riches and world class players in every position, his opportunities have been few and far in between.
Emile Heskey labelled him “phenomenal” in early 2021 and we believe he would be a stellar addition for the Hammers.
It remains to be seen whether or not the Hammers actually narrow in on him or wait for other options to be available.
There are talks about Burnley’s James Tarkowski as well and Moyes is believed to be a fan of both the defenders and one must be signed in January.
In other West Ham news, the club have made an approach to sign a ‘Terrific’ international ace and a January move is on the cards
