West Ham are preparing to hold advanced contract talks with Michail Antonio, according to The Sun (Pg. 62, 12/12/2021).
The Jamaica international’s deal at the London Stadium expires at the end of next season and the Hammers do not want to let him leave for free.
David Moyes is understood to be a fan of the 31-year-old and has built his system to cater to his needs as he is the only recognised striker in this team.
Antonio has gone through so many role changes at the Hammers that he now seems to fit the fabric of the club.
It’s hard to imagine donning any other jersey apart from West Ham’s and Moyes possibly feels the same way.
He has been there for the Scotsman when no other striker has, and Moyes will certainly value how he’s proven to be one of his most consistent players at the club.
The 31-year-old has done everything to merit a new deal so it’s only fair that the club are preparing to hold advanced talks over an extension.
However, this should not stop the Irons’ quest of signing another recognised number nine.
Antonio’s injury issues are well documented and it is important that there is a backup in place when he’s ruled out.
In other West Ham news, the club have made contact to sign an int’l striker & a £17m January move is now on the cards
