Aaron Cresswell and Ryan Fredericks were both absent from West Ham training at Rush Green on Wednesday (8 December).

Posting via his personal Twitter profile, with an image attached, the Evening Standard’s Jack Rosser claims the full-backs were not participating with their teammates ahead of their final Europa League group game against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday (9 December).

Rosser wrote: “At Rush Green as West Ham prepare for Dinamo Zagreb, Cresswell and Fredericks not training with the group outside.”

Football.London journalist Tom Clark also claims that Craig Dawson is not training with the group.

He wrote, via his personal Twitter profile: “Kurt Zouma was in the gym starting his rehab, Craig Dawson training alone, no sign of Cresswell or Fredericks at Rush Green.”

Defenders dropping like flies

Angelo Ogbonna has missed West Ham’s last five games after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Liverpool last month (7 November) and he is now joined on the treatment table by centre-back partner Kurt Zouma, who was substituted against Chelsea on Saturday (4 December) and faces up to 12 weeks out.

Cresswell was absent on Saturday as well, missing the last two games after an injury of his own last month (28 November, v Manchester City).

Meanwhile, Fredericks has missed three games in a row.

That leaves West Ham depleted in the defensive positions, with Ben Johnson also injured.

Vladimir Coufal, Dawson, Issa Diop and Arthur Masuaku were all considered second or third-choice options in recent weeks, but the quartet are the only senior stars standing at the back, and they could all be set for an extended run in the side, at least until the January transfer window opens.

That’s if Dawson recovers from what appears to be another injury in defence, though the fact he is still training is a positive sign.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are lining up a January loan deal for this 22-cap centre-back after Tuesday’s hammer Kurt Zouma injury blow.
