Harrison Ashby could be in contention to start when West Ham take on Norwich City on Saturday, according to The Athletic.
The 20-year-old defender made his Premier League debut on Wednesday (15 December), coming off the bench to replace Pablo Fornals with 16 minutes left on the clock.
Hammers right-back Vladimir Coufal was sent off after picking up two yellow cards, and with Ryan Fredericks and Ben Johnson still out injured, Ashby could be handed his full Premier League debut.
The youngster made his first-team debut against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League dead rubber last week (9 December), playing all 90 minutes, and he put in a solid shift.
Injuries and suspension have left David Moyes with no senior right-back for tomorrow (18 December), and Ashby could get the chance to shine.
Despite being bottom of the Premier League table, Dean Smith’s side cannot be overlooked, and they will fancy their chances of getting a result at the London Stadium given their recent form under their new boss.
It is why Moyes could have reservations over starting the academy graduate.
West Ham could deploy at back-three that would see one of the wingers play at right wing-back, but there are only two senior centre-backs available right now, and such a formation would mean a defensive midfielder could be moved to the back.
The Hammers’ lack of squad depth has been brutally exposed in recent weeks, but it could give some of the kids like Ashby a chance to actually stake a claim in the first-team.
