West Ham want to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free transfer next summer, according to Sky Sports.
Johnstone, 28, sees his contract at the Championship side expire on June 30 2022, and the England shot-stopper is yet to agree on new terms.
Southampton are also in the running for the Manchester United academy graduate and both Premier League clubs are expected to have no issues in sorting out personal terms.
Johnstone only made his England senior debut earlier this year but he has established himself in the set-up under Gareth Southgate, despite suffering the disappointment of Premier League relegation with West Brom in May.
Gary Lineker hailed the goalkeeper as “sensational” on his Twitter account in February.
Johnstone has earned three caps this year and even claimed an assist for Jack Grealish’s goal in October’s 5-0 win over Andorra.
That’s despite playing in the Championship for Albion, where he has kept seven clean sheets in 16 games so far this season.
The West Midlands side have stuttered in their push for automatic promotion in recent weeks and an instant return to the Premier League look precarious right now.
As such, it’s no surprise that he is yet to agree on a new deal at Albion, and he will surely be eyeing a Premier League move next year.
West Ham were heavily linked with a move for Johnstone during the summer transfer window but ended up signing PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan to compete with Lukasz Fabianski.
Areola has been restricted to outings in the cup competitions this season but the Irons do have the option to make his move permanent.
However, they may opt to switch their focus to Johnstone given his upcoming status as a free agent.
In other West Ham news, Rio Ferdinand has made an Irons transfer prediction after a £50million claim.
