West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has been nominated for the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award for his brilliant performances in October.

The 22-year-old has been sensational so far this campaign and his exploits in October have been recognised with this nomination.

The Hammers man has captained his side in all four Premier League fixtures throughout the month, winning three. And fans now have the chance to vote for him in the Player of the Month competition on 90min.com.

Tough competition

Rice has been phenomenal in recent months, and it was no different in October. The young captain is proving to be the lion of the pack, becoming a pivotal and central figure at the heart of the impressive West Ham side.

While only scoring one goal and grabbing one assist- both coming in the Hammers’ demolition of Aston Villa last time out – his general performances have been at the highest level. Across West Ham’s five fixtures in all competitions last month, the midfielder managed an average WhoScored rating of 7.74.

Linking defence and attack, providing a stable screen to the back four, marauding forward to score and create – Rice has become the perfect midfielder and his performances last month were certainly deserving of an accolade.

The same is true for the other five nominees, however. He faces tough opposition in the form of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher and Chelsea wing-back pairing Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

Rice is certainly a mainstay in the ‘Premier League’s top performers’ conversation and is definitely in with a shout of picking up this award. However, let’s be honest, who’s going to pip Salah to the post?
