Rice has been phenomenal in recent months, and it was no different in October. The young captain is proving to be the lion of the pack, becoming a pivotal and central figure at the heart of the impressive West Ham side.
While only scoring one goal and grabbing one assist- both coming in the Hammers’ demolition of Aston Villa last time out – his general performances have been at the highest level. Across West Ham’s five fixtures in all competitions last month, the midfielder managed an average WhoScored rating of 7.74.
Linking defence and attack, providing a stable screen to the back four, marauding forward to score and create – Rice has become the perfect midfielder and his performances last month were certainly deserving of an accolade.
The same is true for the other five nominees, however. He faces tough opposition in the form of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher and Chelsea wing-back pairing Ben Chilwell and Reece James.
