West Ham have submitted a £17million bid for FC Basel striker Arthur Cabral, according to Swiss outlet 4-4-2.ch.

It was reported by Goal last week that the Hammers had opened talks with the Brazilian’s representatives, but the same outlet then suggested on Monday that Barcelona were set to intercept the deal and take Cabral to the Camp Nou.

4-4-2.ch suggest that while there is definitely interest from the Catalan giants, they are yet to make an offer for the 23-year-old.

They state that the only “concrete” bid has come from West
Ham, with the East London side prepared to pay £17m for Cabral’s signature.

This is said to be too good for Basel to refuse due to
economic reasons and that his departure from the Swiss outfit is “getting
closer”.

The report also claims that talks are ongoing with clubs from the Benelux countries, most likely Belgium or the Netherlands.

Talented target

This seems like a transfer saga that could rage on as the
January window gets closer and closer.

One minute Barcelona are favourites to sign Cabral and the next minute West Ham have submitted an offer. Leeds have also been touted as the frontrunners for his signature.

With the Brazilian’s departure from Basel seeming almost
inevitable, whoever does win the race for him will be getting a striker with a
very impressive record.

Cabral already has 25 goals in 26 goals games in all
competitions this season, after netting 20 times in 36 appearances in 2020-21.

West Ham are in desperate need of reinforcements upfront,
with very few options at David Moyes’s disposal behind Michail Antonio.

With ambitions to finish in the top four and progress as far
as possible in the Europa League, signing Cabral would certainly give them a
huge boost.

In other West Ham news, this is the player David Moyes must restore to the starting lineup against Brighton.
