West Ham want to sign Nottingham Forest’s 20-year-old attacking midfielder Brennan Johnson, according to the Daily Mail.

Johnson has scored five goals and assisted four this season and has already found himself on the radar of some Premier League sides.

Barring the Hammers, Everton and Newcastle are two other clubs keen on securing the Wales international’s services.

It is understood that they’re willing to make a move for the youngster, but will have to match Forest’s asking price of £20million which could prompt them into making a sale in January.

Steep valuation

West Ham surely are looking to go down the Said Benrahma route after showing interest in a Championship attacker.

Much like the Algerian, the Welshman’s asking rate is also a tad steep and the club will have to be a hundred per cent sure that they’re going for the right man.

Any move for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard appears dead in the water, as things stand.

So, going for a player who’s similar and younger than the England international, may not be the worst idea.

While it may be just the Championship, Johnson is still managing to deliver impressive numbers playing in that role.

The 20-year-old has been labelled “unbelievable” during Sabri Lamouchi’s tenure at the club, so he certainly is a top player.

If it’s not West Ham, another Premier League club will snap him up in the coming months and it’s only a matter of if and not when.

That’s precisely why the board must make up their mind now or they could regret not making a decision sooner as other clubs are willing to make their move.
