West Ham want to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrick Schick in January in a deal that could cost them up to £40million, according to The Mirror.

The Hammers are keen to add a new striker to their ranks to help add competition to the squad and ease the scoring burden on Michail Antonio.

With the January transfer window approaching, Czech Republic striker Schick has emerged as a target for the east London outfit to add to their growing list of Czech players.

After signing Tomas Soucek, Vladrimir Coufal and loaning Alex Kral, West Ham welcomed Daniel Kretinsky to the board as a 27 percent owner and his influence is clearly growing on the club.

According to The Mirror Schick’s form for Leverkusen where he has scored 16 goals in the Bundesliga this season, only topped by Robert Lewandowski, to add to his five Euro 2020 goals in the summer which saw his reputation soar.

Schick is under contract until 2025, so will likely be a rather expensive signing with the report suggesting he could cost as much as £40m in January.

If you want to add goals to your side, then there are worse ways of doing that than signing Schick.

At 25-years-old, the forward is an excellent option and is also capable of playing from out wide too as he did with AS Roma in Serie A.

The 6ft 2 inch striker is also capable of playing different roles as a striker, using his excellent aerial ability to link with the midfield but also his pace to be able to stretch defences and run in behind.

He showed during Euro 2020 that he can finish with both feet, has great movement in the box and is a real threat against even the best defences after scoring against Croatia, Netherlands and Denmark. His long range-goal against Scotland won goal of the tournament and he was described as a ‘genius‘ for it.

By adding him to the side, the Hammers massively boost the strength in depth they have in attack and it would allow them to let the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko leave without worrying about injuries.
