West Ham could return for Sevilla centre-forward Youssef En-Nesyri in the January transfer window, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes.

En-Nesyri, 24, was heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium during the January transfer window as Sebastien Haller’s replacement.

The Irons reportedly bid £29.5million for the 11-goal Morocco international but were unable to lure him to East London with Sevilla requesting £42.1million.

The La Liga side’s sporting director Monchi is said to still be intent on getting a good fee for En-Nesyri, despite the recent injury issues that have seen him play just nine times this season.

The Andalucian-based club wants to net a big fee in order to reinforce next summer, but it is claimed that another mid-season Irons bid has not been ruled out with Manchester City and Manchester United are also pursuing the striker, though the local rivals have only identified En-Nesyri as a cut-prie Erling Haaland alternative.

En-Nesyri brings goals, as evidenced by an impressive 24-goal haul last season, six of which came in the Champions League.

He scored three in his first seven La Liga outings this season but his campaign has been hampered by muscular problems which have seen him play just two of Sevilla’s last nine games.

That may sound familiar to West Ham supporters who have grown used to Michail Antonio’s own issues, but it’s important to remember that En-Nesyri played 52 times for his club last season, including all 38 La Liga games.

Indeed, he has breached the 30-game mark in the league for the past three seasons.

The forward, nicknamed “Hurricane Youssef” [Diario de Sevilla via The Guardian], only turned 24 during the summer, so it’s easy to see why the Irons could return for him again in January.

Standing at 6ft2in and able to run in behind defences, En-Nesyri has all the attributes to thrive as a Premier League centre-forward and would be a terrific long-term replacement for Antonio while offering intense competition now.

In other West Ham news, a European club has demanded compensation after this major Irons development.
