Simeone, 26, is currently out on loan at Hellas Verona from Serie A rivals Cagliari, scoring 12 goals in 15 appearances for his new club.
However, given the fact that he has already played for two clubs this season – making a brief outing from the bench for his parent club in August – Simeone will be unable to play for another club during the 2021/22 campaign.
Simeone’s representatives have been unsuccessful in their appeal against the decision, with the rules set in stone.
Goals drying up
Michail Antonio is the only senior centre-forward at the London Stadium and the 31-year-old is enduring something of a barren run, failing to score for the Irons since 24 October, in a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Indeed, they have only scored more than once in a single game on one occasion in their last five appearances.
The Irons are in need of a boost to their frontline and Simeone is someone that would arrive full of confidence after his goalscoring exploits this season.
