West Ham have made an approach to sign Serie A hotshot Giovanni Simeone on loan, according to online news outlet TEAMtalk.

Simeone, 26, is currently out on loan at Hellas Verona from Serie A rivals Cagliari, scoring 12 goals in 15 appearances for his new club.

TEAMtalk claim West Ham have made an enquiry to sign the five-cap Argentina international, son of legendary Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, on a loan deal.

However, given the fact that he has already played for two clubs this season – making a brief outing from the bench for his parent club in August – Simeone will be unable to play for another club during the 2021/22 campaign.

Simeone’s representatives have been unsuccessful in their appeal against the decision, with the rules set in stone.

Goals drying up

It’s no secret that West Ham need to sign another centre-forward in January.

Indeed, it’s something they should have done in the last two transfer windows, after selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January 2021.

Michail Antonio is the only senior centre-forward at the London Stadium and the 31-year-old is enduring something of a barren run, failing to score for the Irons since 24 October, in a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

David Moyes’ side have failed to score in either of their last two games, drawing blanks against Burnley (0-0) and Dinamo Zagreb (0-1).

Indeed, they have only scored more than once in a single game on one occasion in their last five appearances.

The Irons are in need of a boost to their frontline and Simeone is someone that would arrive full of confidence after his goalscoring exploits this season.

However, a move looks to be impossible given the rules, and Moyes must look elsewhere in his pursuit for a new centre-forward in January.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are in a race with Newcastle United to sign this Arsenal 24-year-old who is set to be sold for a bargain fee in 2022.
