West Ham are considering making a “cheeky bid” for Barcelona defender Gerard Pique in the January transfer window.
According to reports from Claret and Hugh, Barcelona could be ready to offload him and get him off the wage bill.
The 34-year-old is a world-class defender, and he would have to take a massive pay-cut to join the London outfit in January.
Pique would be an unreal signing for the club.
He has won everything. He won one Premier League and one Champions League title with Manchester United, and enjoyed a trophy-laden career with Barcelona.
He won eight La Liga titles with Barca, and further won three Champions League trophies with them.
Pique is also a World Cup winner with Spain.
Considering Barcelona’s financial situation, the club would welcome the opportunity to let him go and get rid of his massive wages, although he took a pay cut.
West Ham could find it really difficult to lure him to the London Stadium, but it shows the ambition they’re displaying at the moment.
Adding a central defender could be a priority for David Moyes following the injury to Angelo Ogbonna, who is set to be absent for the rest of the season.
Pique is a highly experienced defender who would bring great
quality and leadership to the side.
His presence will lift the atmosphere completely with the
Hammers chasing a top-four finish this season.
Pique clearly loves Barcelona to death. His family is well settled in Spain and it is down to him whether he wants a new challenge at this stage of his career.
