West Ham United target Anthony Martial wants to leave Manchester United in January, according to his agent.

The Frenchman has made only 10 appearances for the Red
Devils this season and started just twice in the Premier League.

The Hammers were linked with signing Martial in the summer [Daily Star] but were reportedly put off by his £250,000-per-week wages.

Speculation will no doubt hot up again in the next few weeks
following the admission from the forward’s representative.

Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports News: “Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.

“He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January
and I will speak to the club soon.”

There is no doubt that Martial would be an excellent signing
for West Ham as it is well-documented how much the Hammers need to sign a new
striker in January.

Behind top scorer Michail Antonio, David Moyes has limited options upfront, which could prove to be a significant problem as the fixture list becomes more congested.

Martial’s lack of game time over the last couple of seasons
has meant his goal contribution has also been limited, but in the 2019-20 campaign
he scored 17 goals in 32 Premier League appearances, showing the talent he has.

At 26 years old, he is approaching his peak and still has plenty to offer any team given the opportunity. Indeed, yesterday Gary Neville described Martial as a “special talent”.

For West Ham, the issue may again come down to cost. Eurosport reported in September that Manchester United wanted £40m for the Frenchman, but even if the Hammers were willing to pay that price, there would still be a stumbling block over his wages.

The only hope Moyes may have of signing him is if the
£250,000-per-week salary also puts other clubs off and Martial is forced to lower
his demands.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers need to make a decision on a transfer target who could be on the move in January.
