The Italy international is currently at Napoli but his contract is set to expire in the summer. While the Serie A side are keen to renew his deal, they cannot match the wages being offered to him by the MLS side and it’s now believed that a deal is ‘progressing’.
David Moyes currently has the likes of Said Benrahma, Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio to choose from in his attacking positions and the arrival of ‘livewire‘ Insigne wouldn’t really have fit in.
While he is no slouch, he is a shoot-first type of winger and that doesn’t really fit with the way Moyes uses his wide players.
He’s also 30-years-old, which doesn’t fit with the age profile that the club usually brings in or with the current squad.
The wages being reported from the deal for Toronto to complete the signing of the Italy international would make Insigne by far and away West Ham’s highest earner, and it just simply isn’t something they’d need to do.
In this instance it seems as though not getting the deal done is in the best interests of the club and nobody should really be batting an eyelid.
