West Ham United should act quickly to sign Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde, with Newcastle United considering a bid for the Frenchman.

The Hammers were linked with a move for Laborde in the summer when he was at Montpellier [Le 10 Sport], but he ended up joining Rennes on deadline day.

The 27-year-old has scored 14 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions this season, which has led to speculation that he could be on the move again in January.

Homme du Match are reporting that Newcastle want to sign Laborde, while Wolves have made him their number one target for next summer (2022).

The report claims that Rennes would only sell for a significant
transfer fee, with the Magpies set offer £27m – double the amount that the Ligue
1 side paid for the striker in August.

If there is a chance of Laborde coming to the Premier
League, West Ham need to put themselves front of the queue.

The Hammers’ need to sign a striker in January is well-documented,
with David Moyes having very few options at his disposal behind Michail
Antonio, who has struggled for form in recent games.

While Newcastle would no doubt be able to offer Laborde a higher salary due to their recent takeover, the prospect of playing in the Europa League and battling for a place in the top four at the London Stadium is much more enticing than competing in a relegation battle at St. James’ Park.

Only Jonathan David has scored more goals (10) in Ligue 1 this season than Laborde (nine), while only Kylian Mbappe averages more shots per game (3.9) than the Rennes frontman (3.5) [WhoScored].

Despite being 5ft 11in, the Frenchman is strong in the air
and plays the targetman role well, while also being able to play wide on the

At 27 years old, he is in the prime of his career so West Ham should seriously consider reigniting their interest.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are one of a number of teams chasing this £30m-rated striker.
