West Ham can’t wait around for Jesse Lingard; they have to make an early move in January as they are set to face some serious competition.

Fabrizio Romano claimed on his personal Twitter account on Friday night [10 December] that Newcastle United are “seriously interested” in signing the 28-year-old.

Now, normally this wouldn’t be a problem given the Toon’s recent history and current league position.

However, the Toon are not a regular club anymore, and they are now the richest in the world after their prolonged takeover finally went through.

Therefore, you would think that they could offer Lingard an enticing wage to move to Tyneside instead of east London.

Of course, they are still in a massive relegation battle, but if they do survive, the Magpies could become a force, which you would think could convince Lingard to move to Tyneside.

Now, it feels as though the Irons are the favourites to sign the England international because he knows just how good he can be at the London Stadium under David Moyes.

Remember, he was described as “phenomenal” by Adrian Durham on talkSPORT while he was on loan at West Ham last season [12 April].

He has even admitted just how happy he was with the Hammers, and the Irons are well ahead of Newcastle as a club as it stands [The Players Tribune].

So, it looks like a straight shootout between Newcastle and West Ham, and the winner of the race could well be the club that makes the first move [West Ham Way].

Therefore, it is vital that the Hammers strike first and go all in for Lingard because if they don’t, you can see the Magpies stealing him instead.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have made contact with a club for a new striker.
