West Ham face competition from Barcelona for Wolves winger Adama Traore this January, but they should embrace the challenge and push forward with their chase.

The Hammers have been linked with a cut-price move for the Spain international [Telegraph] after Wolves made it clear they were open to a transfer if the price was right.

Tottenham are deemed as the front-runners in the race for Traore [90min], but it has now emerged that Barcelona are also targeting him.

According to a tweet by Albert Roge, a journalist for SPORT, Barcelona would like to sign Traore if Ousmane Dembele refuses to renew his contract at the Camp Nou and leaves this January.

Traore came through the famous La Masia academy as a youngster, before leaving Barcelona for more regular game time when he joined Aston Villa in 2015.

If West Ham are serious about going to the next level and becoming a team that challenge for the European places in the Premier League on a regular basis, then this is a deal they should pursue.

Traore is an explosive winger who has been labelled as ‘unplayable‘ in the past, with his tremendous speed and dribbling ability able to unlock even the sturdiest defences.

But with the Hammers looking to bolster their attacking options, Traore is the type of player with an X-factor that could really help elevate the team.

David Moyes is the type of manager who can help to transform an attacking player, just ask Michail Antonio, and that type of coaching could help Traore really kick on and become more of a goal threat.

As they look to start bringing in the next level calibre of player to help them progress, it means they will have to compete against top sides for those players’ signatures.

This is a case of that, and Traore is someone they could certainly convince with the promise of more regular game time.

Whether they’re successful in doing so isn’t the most important thing, because Barcelona are Barcelona at the end of the day. But the intent will show current players and fans that they’re serious about getting better, and sometimes that’s what matters the most.
