Arsenal have been told to save themselves £25million this summer by signing West Ham target Denis Zakaria on a free transfer instead.

The Swiss international midfielder is available on a free once his contract expires in June, with the Borussia Monchengladbach star confirming that he won’t be renewing his deal.

But while Arsenal are reportedly interested in taking him to the Emirates, that comes after previous links to bring him to east London with the Hammers came to light.

Zakaria has shone for Gladbach for a couple of seasons now, with the Bundesliga proving the perfect breeding ground for his energetic and athletic style of play.

There are plenty of interested parties and the Hammers were never front-runners, but you have to feel that with a big push for his services they would be in a good position to get a deal done.

They would definitely be able to offer him regular football and his signing would be a sign to their better players that they are looking to make the next step up in competition.

Currently the Hammers are fifth in the Premier League and pushing for a European place again, while they also qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

Adding Zakaria would only bolster their squad and would be a statement to the rest of the league that their intentions are to continue improving and not just settle for where they are.

If the opportunity arises to prize the midfielder that was once described as ‘complete‘ by Marco Rose to the London Stadium, then Moyes and the board should do everything they can to ensure it gets done.
