We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie would be delighted to see West Ham sign Real Madrid playmaker Isco amid recent speculation.
The Sunday People reported via their print edition on November 21 [page 57] that the Irons are leading the race to sign the 29-year-old attacking midfielder, with Premier League rivals Leeds United also linked.
Ex-Irons forward McAvennie has delivered his reaction to the news that his old club has made contact to sign the “sensational” [BT Sport’s Darren Fletcher] Spaniard.
“He’s not a bad player,” McAvennie quipped to West Ham Zone.
“I’ve seen something on him, a documentary, he’s a nice kid. He was going out of his way and doing things for the community. You could tell it wasn’t just for cameras, he was doing a lot for them.
“Good player, [the] world at his feet, sometimes you just need a move to get your career back on track. West Ham did it with [Jesse] Lingard and got him back in the England squad.
“Listen, you don’t become a bad player overnight. I’d be happy with Isco.”
Madrid to Moyes?
Isco has made just seven appearances for Real Madrid this season, all in La Liga.
He is yet to play in this season’s Champions League and has remained rooted to the bench in five of their last six games.
The 38-cap Spain international looks to be out of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and could be on his way out in January, with David Moyes’ side seemingly favourites to secure his signature.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes was ‘absolutely furious’ at this Irons star against Manchester City.
